FAQs about the Shabbat Service
Q: How long is the service?
A: Our Saturday Services start at 11:30 am and end around 2:30 pm.
Q: What is an appropriate dress code?
A: Casual attire with modesty. We want you to be comfortable attending the service. If you are not sure, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
Q: Do you have classes for children?
A: Yes. We have classes for youth, teens, and littles. Please reach out to us for the kids' class schedule.
Q: Are men and women seated in separate sections at your congregation?
A: While we respect that this is a standard practice at some congregations, we are all about family. Men, women, and children sit together at Beth Machaseh.
Q: What is an Oneg?
A: Oneg is a Hebrew term, meaning 'delight' and 'pleasure'. It is a social gathering and fellowship time, with a delicious meal after the service.
Q: What is a Tithe?
A: Tithe is a one-tenth contribution of one's income. It originates in an Old Testament commandment for the Israelites to support priests. Today, it is regarded as Tikkun Olam; voluntary giving is an act of faith.
Q: Is there a 10% rule at Beth Machaseh?
A: No. Our congregation believes in joyful giving. Hashem blesses those who give $1 with a cheerful heart, but He grieves when some give $100 grudgingly or expecting a return.
