How has Messianic music changed my life?
Wow! What a question. In a nutshell? It hasn’t. Only Hashem has truly changed my life. However, He has allowed my perspective to shift towards messianic music or I guess music in general. I’ve always been involved with music, since a little tator-tot. From belting Michael Bolton as a 3 year old to pretending to play the guitar on the worship team at 6 years old to now writing music and playing the harp. Music is my calling, music runs in my blood and music is a gift, a beautiful gift from Heaven above.
My perspective did not truly shift until I started reading my scriptures faithfully. Hashem led me to begin with the story of King David. He was one of the greatest musician of all times.
He was also a skilled warrior, and a fantastic and loyal King and as we can see throughout the entire book of Psalms he truly was a gifted musician and incredible lyricist.
Psalm 33:1-3 are the few verses that Hashem has guided me to and keeps bringing me back to.
“ Sing Joyfully to the Lord, you righteous: it is fitting for the upright to praise Him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to Him on a 10 stringed Lyre. Sing to Him a new song: play skillfully, and shout for Joy!”
When I was first introduced to Messianic music. I came across the well now known artist Joshua Aaron. I remember being so captivated by the fact he was actually singing in Hebrew. The Hebrew language is part of my heritage. The language and the music is beautiful and I absolutely love it!
One thing I have grown to respect and understand about messianic music is how simple it is. One could literally just put the psalms of King David to music and create beautiful, simple but very honoring music to Hashem.
Music seems to have this way of really tugging on your heart strings when done in the power of the Holy Spirit. I believe music is a form of communication between us and “Heaven” if you will. It is it’s own language. Created for a purpose. If you have ever read in Zephaniah 3:17 “...in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” I believe Hashem sings over us all the time. Throughout scripture you will find He really does love singing, praising, shouts of joy and what we call music. Beautiful isn’t it?
With all that being said I guess my question to you reader would be how has music changed your relationship with Hashem? As for me, music draws me close to Him. It helps me understand and speak to Him even without using words, just sounds. If we would all open our ears and listen to the music Scripture sings. I promise we will not be disappointed.
